They are thus the custodians of the old wealth and the old ways and are doing everything to protect their position of privilege from being usurped by pretentious nouveau-riche blacks who wants to overrun and nationalize everything in sight. Recent political developments like the ANC youth league president threatening with killing for the very unsuitable presidential candidate does not exactly help in easing their fears.

What the article fails to consider is that the web interconnects the globe. There is no such thing as South African cyberspace anymore.. or African for that matter. The digisphere is a global thinkspace, writespace and marketspace.

People in certain geographic locations are more privileged only because they had a headstart.

Also.. One day we were using the old round dial phone. Pow.. next thing we had button dial phones. Nobody saw it coming. Just like that there are more than one way to do anything.
Like Amazon's Kindle, some South African might develop hardware that can be bought for next to nothing.. something that'll enable web access.. at a very low cost..
I'm also busy reading a paper on digital transmission via electricity lines, and accordingto it the possibility exist that we could soon have Eskom or Spoornet to thank for dirt cheap internet connectivity.

Maslow applied to the internet as if its a living thing smells like the work of a Californian Ideologist.

I thought this piece will help us understand why people use social networks and how Maslow can explain this.

Anyway, think of a mobile phone as a social network node, and th address book as a friend list. Seen in this way its obvious that social network will have a big impact in Africa.
